The Somatic Escape
Exploring Rhythm, Nature, and Cognitive Release

This residency was designed as a multi-sensory journey through the desert landscape. By combining the ancestral vibration of African drumming with the physical
endurance of a mountain hike and the cognitive tension of an escape room, the experience forced a dialogue between the body’s instinct and the mind’s architecture.

The Architecture of the Residency

VIBRATION

Used the African drum to ground
the nervous system and establish a collective rhythm before entering
the desert.

ENDURANCE

Facilitated a somatic hike through Red Rock Canyon to explore how the vastness of the horizon impacts physical breath and movement.

STRATEGY

Utilized an escape room as a study in cognitive tension, collective problem-solving, and the body's response to confinement.

The Inquiry
How does the scale of the horizon dictate the depth of our breath?

In the desert, silence isn't an
absence of sound, but a presence
of space. The body expands to
match the landscape, but the
mind retreats into focus.
